Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina‘s dictatorship has destroyed every institution in the country, said the chief adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He said, “I have taken charge of the country at a time when there is extreme chaos in almost all areas.

Therefore, the interim government will organize a free, fair and participatory election after the necessary reforms in the Election Commission, judiciary, public administration, law enforcement and media.

At a hotel in the capital, the first briefing of ambassadors of various foreign missions and representatives of international organizations including the United Nations was held in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, Dr. Yunus said this.

He expressed hope that Bangladesh’s friends, partners and the international community will stand by the new journey of a democratic future.

Later in the briefing, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam told reporters that the Chief Adviser has sought the full support of foreign diplomats.

The chief adviser said, Bangladesh is happy to be among friends. Two weeks ago, Bangladesh witnessed the second revolution. Millions of students rose up against the brutal dictatorship of Sheikh Hasina.

But she (Sheikh Hasina) left the country after her party’s student body and only law and order forces committed the worst civilian massacre in the country since independence.

Dr. Yunus said, “I have deep respect for all those brave students and innocent people who made the ultimate sacrifice. In no other country in our recent memory have students paid so much for expressing their democratic aspirations; Where we have to dream of a non-discrimination, just and eco-friendly country, where the human rights of every citizen will be fully protected.

The Chief Adviser said, “I have come to take charge of the country at a time when there is complete chaos in many aspects. In an attempt to stay in power, Sheikh Hasina’s autocratic government has destroyed every institution in the country.

The judicial system has collapsed. He said, democratic rights were suppressed through a decade and a half of ruthless brutality. The election was rigged. The younger generation has grown up without exercising their right to vote.

The bank was looted with full political patronage. And the state treasury has been looted by abuse of power.

Dr. Yunus said, ‘A dream of the students about the country, which has ushered in a new era.’ Can enjoy full freedom. The government will uphold democracy, justice, human rights and freedom of speech.

The Chief Adviser pointed out that the top priority of the interim government is to bring the law and order situation under control. Armed forces will continue to operate with the assistance of civilian forces, until the situation will be sure The Interim Government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all religious and ethnic groups.

The Chief Adviser welcomed the UN investigation into the July-August protests in the country. He said, he wants an impartial investigation of this incident.

Dr. Yunus said that the government will implement all the agreements Bangladesh has with international organizations. He said, ‘I will be responsible for important reforms in the Election Commission, Judiciary, Civil Administration, Security Forces and Media.

We will then hold a free, fair and participatory election. We will also make sincere efforts to increase national consensus.

The chief adviser said, ‘Bangladesh has come to a crossroads of a new journey. Our nation needs lasting change for our courageous students and people. Our journey is difficult. We have to fulfil their desires.

The sooner that happens, the better. We believe that all friends and partners of the international community will stand by our government and people on the journey to a new democratic future.
