A major change in the responsibilities of advisers in Bangladesh

After four new advisers were sworn in, the responsibilities of the interim government’s advisers have undergone major changes. Newly sworn-in Wahid Uddin Mahmud has been given the charge of Ministry of Planning and Education.

From the old advisers, Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hussain has been removed from the Ministry of Home Affairs and given the responsibility of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has been given the charge of Home Ministry in his place. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury will handle the Ministry of Agriculture along with Home Affairs.

Among the new advisers, Ali Imam Mazumder has been attached to the office of Chief Adviser. Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan has been given charge of Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources as well as Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and Ministry of Railways.

Also from the old advisers, Salehuddin Ahmed has been given the charge of the finance ministry as well as the commerce ministry. Earlier he was given charge of Finance and Planning Ministry.

Professor Asif Nazrul has been given the responsibility of Ministry of Law as well as Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment and Ministry of Culture.

Adilur Rahman Khan has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works along with the Ministry of Industry. Syeda Rizwana Hasan will handle the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as well as the Ministry of Water Resources.

Md. Nahid Islam has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting along with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor and Employment along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Apart from this, Farooq-e-Azam has received the responsibility of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief along with Ministry of Liberation War.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in the face of the students’ movement on August 8. A 17-member interim government was formed with Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser. They were joined by four new advisers who were sworn in on Friday.

Earlier today at 4.11PM in the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban, the President Sahabuddin, read the oath of the new advisors.

Now the chief adviser of the interim government. Muhammad Yunus has the responsibility of several ministries and departments including the Cabinet Department, Defense Ministry, Food and Public Administration Ministry.

  • Md. Touhid Hossain – Rural Development and Cooperatives
  • Sharmin S Murshid – Foreign Affairs
  • Supradeep Chakma – Social Welfare, on Chittagong Hill Tracts
  • Bidhan Ranjan – Roy Primary and Mass Education
  • A F M Khalid Hossain – Dharma
  • Farida Akhtar – Fisheries and Livestock
  • Nurjahan Begum – is in charge of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
